WHY WE ARE...
Mission Statement:
The restoration, preservation, and appreciation of the vessel Kit Jones as an historic, cultural and educational resource for McIntosh County and other coastal Georgia communities.
Goals
-- To document the history of the Kit Jones and seek a listing on the National Register of Historic Places;
-- To restore and maintain the Kit Jones for educational and cultural purposes that reflect community identity and heritage;
-- To promote the Kit Jones as a community economic development opportunity for heritage tourism and downtown revitalization.
Commemorative bricks are available to purchase and will be installed in the walkways around the park!
Grassroots preservation is empty pocketbooks, bloody fingers, and private satisfactions. It is long hours, hard work, and no pay. It is a personal dialogue with ghosts. It is a face-to-face confrontation with the past... It is an equation between self and history so powerful that it makes us lie down in front of bulldozers, raise toppled statues, salvage old boats.
